The Sweet Revenge of Celia Door by Karen Finneyfrock is sweet and tart like a granny smith apple and poignant like reading someone’s diary. I loved it. It’s about Celia Door’s freshman year in high school after a truly crappy middle school experience when her parents split up and she was bullied. Freshman year she reinvents herself as Celia The Dark and explores poetry as a means of expression. Then a new guy comes to her school and entrusts her with a secret. It is a tender friendship with an unexpected ending. I totally cried. I’m a parent and I ached for Celia. Read it! Give it to a middle schooler or high schooler you know who’s having a rough time.
